Parent Portal Destination Success Parents Meet On February 16, parents of 9th grade students met in the cafeteria for meeting number four of five. Parents present were treated to a dinner of tossed salad, lasagna, corn on the cob, garlic bread, peach, pecan and sweet potato pies, drinks. Parents received updated progress reports and wrote comments on what they thought of the transition program thus far. The discussion topic for this meeting was "Heading for the Home Stretch." The emphasis was on whether the studets allowing enough time on their studies, talking to the students about testing strategies since we are getting ready for state exams, whether students are reading enough for not only their course work but for pleasure as well. Further discussion was on students who have not properly prepared themselves academically may be going through some stressful situations which need to be addressed. Are their children talking back? Are they exemplifying irritability. Diamonds In the Rough and Black History Hot Springs High School's Diamonds in the Rough's choral group, J-SOP (Joyful Sounds of Praise) were invited to Lakeside School to help them celebrate Black History Month. The group was invited by the school librarian. The students performed in the library while Lakeside students ate their lunch. They were complimented by the staff as well as the students. After the choir sang the last song, I Need You to Survive, they spent the remaining time laughing and talking with old and new friends. The choir director, Mr. Chatman, has worked diligently with the group. We thank our own librarian, Mr. Evans, for sharing with Lakeside's librarian about J-SOP performing at our school. The group is co-sponsored by Mrs. Massey. The choir's next engagement will be the half-time entertainment at the March 27th Power 92 Jammers and Ballers' game.
