Jr. Trojans are 2013-14 5A SW Champions!

In just his first year as head coach, LaMont Page led the Junior High Boys Basketball team to a second straight 5A Southwest Conference Championship. The Trojans entered the final game of the District Tournament on the heels of a 16 game winning streak, which included a perfect 11-0 conference record. Their last loss had come at Pine Bluff, in early December, before the Jr. Trojans rattled off 16 straight and entered the conference tournament as the overall #1 seed. The boys defeated Malvern in their first tournament game on February 15, with a final score of 53-19. In the semi-final game, on February 17, the Trojans ousted Camden-Fairview by a score of 57-36. However, the championship game proved to be a daunting task as the Trojans had to battle back from an early 15 point deficit. After being down 22-13 at halftime, the Jr. Boys outscored Lakeside 12-6 in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 3 points entering the final quarter of play (28-25). Thanks to some clutch 4th quarter baskets by Isaiah Gulley and 8th grader, Lashawn Reed the Trojans were able to tie the game (37-37) with less than 30 seconds left to play. When a game winning field goal did not fall for the Trojans, the game was sent to an overtime period. In overtime, the Trojans, led by Exavian Christon (who had a game high 19 points) and Isaiah Gulley (who finished with 12 points) were able to seal the victory by a final margin of 44-41. The win completed back-to-back conference tournament championships for the Jr. Trojans, to go along with back-to-back conference regular season titles. The Jr. High Basketball team finished the season with a record of 22-2 and the program has not lost a conference game in two seasons.
